Floods Live Updates: Another Wettest Month on Record for Sydney

Sydney has already had its wettest October in 165 years, marking the third time the New South Wales capital has broken a monthly rainfall record this year. Since precipitation data collection began in 1858, WeatherZone meteorologists said they have never seen weather conditions "even close" to 2022 levels. The previous record of 285mm set in 1987 was scrapped today when Sydney's monthly total reached 286.8mm at 10.40am.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the heaviest rainfall in the 24 hours from 9.00am on Monday included:

• 233 mm at Alstonville, NSW
• 215 mm at Goonengerry, NSW
• 196 mm at Doon Doon, NSW
• 178 mm at Repentance, NSW
• 159 mm at Tuckombil, NSW
• 160 mm at Terania Creek, NSW
• 145 mm at Mullumbimby Creek, NSW
• 127 mm at Lismore, NSW
• 95 mm at Renmark, SA (daily all time record)
• 93 mm at Upper Springbrook, Qld

Based on cumulative average monthly rainfall totals at Sydney Observatory Hill (in mm). 2022 became the wettest year on record on 6 October when a total of 2,199.8mm of rain fell. 1950 was the previous record holder, with a total annual rainfall of 2,194mm. He said if rain was forecast for next Sunday and Monday, Victoria was likely to see its wettest October on record.
